Candle Care

To ensure you get the safest and best possible burn from your candles try following the useful tips/recommendations below:-

  • Prior to the first and each subsequent burn always trim the wick to 1/4 inch using a specialised wick trimmer or scissors. This will prevent the wick from "mushrooming" . Leaving your wick untrimmed will cause soot to drop into the melted wax pool and  will lead to a carbon build up on the inside of your candle jar, causing it to go black.
  • In order to ensure a clean and total burn of your candle (ie. to avoid tunneling) it is imperative to ensure that the first , and all subsequent burns, melt the wax pool across the total surface of your candle (that is all the way to the edge of the vessel).
  • Your candle should have a completely melted surface prior to extinguishing. This can take any where from 2-4 hours in the first burn, shorter in subsequent burns. This will ensure a clean burn, long life of your candle and maximum fragrance throw. Candles have a "memory" and if this is not carried on your next burn your candle will will only burn to the previously melted area and begin to "tunnel" down from there. This will severely shorten the life of your candle and result in wax remaining on the side of your jar.
  • A correctly burned candle will result in a clean jar with only remaining wax being the 1/2 inch left in the bottom.
  • Only burn candles for a maximum of 4 hours at a time.
  •  Always keep wick centred in the jar.
  • Ensure that candle is burned on an a level , heat resistant surface and away from overhead items, breezes or drafts.
  • Never leave a candle burning unattended and keep put of the reach of children or pets.
  • For safety reasons NEVER burn your candle all the way down to the bottom of the jar. You should extinguish your candle once 1/2" of wax remains in the bottom of your jar.
  • To get the best out of your candle it is always best to extinguish your candle by dipping the wick into the melted wax pool, setting it back into place, with a dedicated wick dipper. This will prevent that "blown out" candle smell and coat your wick with wax, preventing smoking/sparking when next lit.  Alternatively use a candle snuffer (although this is not ideal as it will still produce the "blown out" candle smell and override the lovely fragrance of your previously burned candle).
  • Never allow water or moisture to contaminate your candle.
  • Never move a burning a candle or a candle in which the wax is still in liquid form.
  • Always extinguish a candle if it smokes, flickers repeatedly or the flame becomes too high.
  • Always ensure that your candle is completely extinguished and the wick is no longer glowing prior to leaving it unattended.
  • Store candles in a cool environment , away from direct sunlight.
