These items are form my own personal collection and although I am VERY reluctant to let them go, I just don't have a spot for them anymore. It is time for them to move onto someone who can love and proudly display them, as they so rightly deserve.
These rare to find items were originally purchased from the United States and date back to early-mid 1800's and for years the Top Hat would be removed from the box each year at Christmas as sit proudly atop my snowman decorated Christmas tree !
The hat is constructed from felted beaver fur and is in great condition and is stamped inside with its makers "Neuetse Mode". As to be expected in an item this age there is wear from years and years of use.
The hat box is of leather construction with the fabric lining fully intact. The leather patina is "to die for"...lol and shows its many years of use. ... it is a well-worn piece but still beautiful. Just imagine the stories this piece could tell of its owner/owner's travels.

A BIT OF TOP HAT TRIVIA FOR YOU:-
Felted beaver, the end product used in the actual construction of a beaver hat, was created through the process of felting. The fur of the beaver had little barbs on the end which, when pressed, would interlock and make a solid fabric..... felt.
Beaver hats were water-repellent. This fact, coupled with the fact that many hats had wide brims, may help explain their popularity in a rainy climate such as England, prior to the invention of the umbrella. Superstitions surrounding beaver fur may also have contributed to the hat’s popularity. It was said that a beaver hat made the wearer more intelligent; by rubbing the oil into one’s hair, it was possible to develop a remarkable memory. It was also rumoured that a deaf person would regain their hearing by wearing a beaver hat.
The vogue for beaver felt declined in the mid-19th century when silk was found to be less expensive, yet just as stylish. Prince Albert, consort to Queen Victoria, helped popularize the wearing of silk hats in the 1840s.
